Take a peek

Learning new vocabulary (as well as revising) is very imortant when we want to be fluent in a language. It's good to do anything to practise it so I've prepared for you a handful of phrases to pick up any time. Enjoy :-)

take a peek at sb / sth - rzucić okiem; zerknąć na kogoś / coś

hit the headlines - trafić na pierwsze strony gazet
Her unexpected victory hit the headlines.

be no stranger to sth - dobrze znać coś
He is no stranger to success in his professional life.
be the apple of sb's eye - być oczkiem w głowie
He is the apple of his mother's eye.

publicize - nagłaśniać
Their divorce was highly publicized.

pine for sb / sth - usychać z tęsknoty za
When he emigrated to another country, he pined for his family and friends.

follow in sb's footsteps - podążać śladami kogoś
Tom followed in his father's footsteps by studying at Harvard.


rub shoulders with sb - obracać się w towarzystwie kogoś
As a celebrity, she rubbed shoulders with many famous people.

set one's sights on sth - stawiać sobie coś za cel
She set her sights on graduating from university.

set sb apart - wyróżniać kogoś
What sets him apart is his passion for politics.
